BEST WAITRESS IN THE WORLD

A few weeks back my father retired from the government and found a more interesting job on the east coast. He's finally free from the hell that they were putting him through and is now appreciated for his hard work. He says he's working with Panasonic but lets be real, he's more likely to be working with the CIA.

My family has sold most their furniture and is left with a bed room set and grandfather clock. They have packed up their kitchen goods and have shipped them off to their new home in Reston, Virginia. Reston is a quick 3 hour drive from us in Philly so of course we couldn't be happier.

Except I started to tear up this morning when my mom sent me this picture.

Today is my mother's last day of work. She's leaving her waitressing job at Eggs-N-Things to move out of beautiful California and move to the lovely Virginia. Twenty-one years of becoming part of her customers family. Twenty-one years watching customers kids go off to school, get married then have kids of their own. Twenty-one years of taking care of her customers after her shifts and on her off days.

My mom went to every wedding, baby shower and funeral. In the past I have joined my mother in attending a few funerals, and when I did the family would come up to my mother and thank her for all the times she sat and listened, took him/her to the doctors and visited the nursing home. She was always there for them.

Every year there is a Best Waitress of the Year Award given to a waitress that works in our county. How she didn't win this award will be a mystery to everyone.

I am so thankful to have my parents close by but wish I could bring Eggs-N-Things too.

  1. Katie, this post made me cry. You are truly fortunate to have such great parents. I saw your Mom and Dad yesterday, and I will miss them so much as I miss you as well! I'm excited for their new adventure on the east coast though. So happy they will be close (for a while) to you, Evan, Ila, Thor & Thor's son!

I am so very happy for you and your upcoming wedding. Happy At Last! You have an amazing life now, and I know your parents are truly happy for you....

I hope to see some pictures of this amazing day.

Love to you all. You know, you may be thousands of miles away, but you are never far from my heart.

    Love you now and always,

    Josie

  2. Your Mom is a true gem and a gift to all who know her! She offered and provided hope, joy, love, and life when she and your Dad invited and welcomed invited my sister and her family to visit in March 2011..... (Sally Hatstat May)

  3. I had the blessing of meeting your mom several years ago and actually worked a short period of time with her! I know she is sad to leave her Egg&Things family, but more importantly I know she is overjoyed to be closer to her children and grandchildren! Make sure you give her lots of hugs from us all when you see her!

  4. Hi Katie, Karen and I have known you and your family for over 20 + years. I was lucky enough to work with your dad the past 3 and a half years. Karen and I are going to miss your parents so very much. It was always nice to get together for a party or BBQ at your parents house...but no more. Maybe Karen and I can make a trip out to DC to see Vic and Sally while trying to take in some of the history of the area. We have been so fortunate to have gotten to know you, Tony, and your parents. You all will be missed, Love you all!

    Gary & Karen T.
