29 Weeks

I'm pretty damn fortunate to be able to spend this pregnancy job free. The free time allows me to focus on the necessary nesting. I say "necessary" because I would go crazy if Lee Ila were to come with our home in the condition it is now.

Don't get me wrong, it's not horrible. Ev & his friends (plus some hired help) have updated the house to a livable point. When they moved in, the house needed a AC unit, windows, tile, popcorn ceilings removed etc. They also renovated the kitchen and guest bathrooms. They finished that list and kinda just pushed the decorating and landscaping to the side. I don't feel like this is considered calling them out because they put so much work into the house but stopped because there was much bigger fish to fry (opening the gym.)

Now it's up to Thor and I to revamp the place. First we needed a direction. I'm thinking south...

To Mexico!! Not literally, (I couldn't chance making the drive through Mexico in my third trimester) but I shall bring Mexico to me via shipping & small shops I hope to eventually find in this town.  More than just Mexican influences, some Spanish, Tuscan and Mediterranean all mixed together.

I think my Aunt Valerie (Dad's sister) has had a huge influence on my interest in interior design. As far back as I can remember she has renovated their homes with a "Casa" feel to it. Essentials include: terra cotta, hand painted mexican tiles, wrought iron, and large furniture pieces from reclaimed wood in different shades. Bold splashes of orange, teal, navy blue, red and yellow to liven the place up just enough to not pass the point where its overwhelming. Of course, the area that they live in is known for this style. Coastal California is known for this style of homes, the "Modern Haciendas."

I've started on landscaping as well. I'm using succulents and veneer cut stones to border the patio. It's not completed, but thats what we're starting with.  Our patio furniture comes tomorrow and the gazebo should be here sometime this week. Everything's coming together!

Even the nursery is close to being finished. Just waiting on the carpet to be installed before updating with pictures.

Lee Ila is ready to come out. Well, not really, but I'm ready to meet her. Her movements feel like she's scratching at my insides. I've experienced Braxton Hicks contractions in the last few weeks but they are infrequent, irregular and feel like mild cramps.
When we met with our midwife, we were pleased to hear the baby doing just fine. She taught us how to feel the difference between Ila's butt and face. Most shocking news, Ila's tall! Who would've known...

I especially like the quality and quantity of information given to Evan and I about what options are available. The midwife explained in full detail of the procedure of a few tests and allowed us to decide if we wanted to do it. Being low risk makes it easy for me to turn tests down.

Ev and I have also started our Bradley Method classes. So far so good, lots of homework, not really but we still haven't read the articles we were assigned to read last Tuesday. There's relaxation exercises we are suppose to be doing daily, but don't, not till I wake up in the middle of the night and feel cramped and need a good stretch. We'll get to it eventually ;)

~ Quick Pregnancy Update ~
I've gained 9 lbs from the date of conception.
My skin has broken out and semi-scarred from "popping" but finally healing.
I already had spider veins and they have not gotten any worse.
I have yet to grow varicose veins.
My belly button is officially an outie.
My nails and hair has never been longer.
I waddle.
No stretch marks... (knocks on wood.)

We look forward to our February visitors and accomplishments on the house. I'll update with pictures soon as I can.

HELLOOOO

Feels like forever since I've updated y'all with whats new. From the pregnancy to another change in location, I have much to say- but first, let's talk about Alabama.

I didn't have my camera out enough for our trip back to Ev's hometown. Lesson learned. Thankfully, Uncle Skip brought his talent to the baby shower "Big Mamma" Deb threw for us in Birmingham for Ev's father's family. It was so beautiful! The stars were out, the fire pit was blazing, food was exactly what I was craving and my favorite part, good people all around.

We had a lovely time with the Mathis family. The next day we drove 4 hours south to Fairhope, where Ev's mother's family, the Baumhowers, were finishing the final details on another baby shower. WE ARE SPOILED. Sweet home made chili, corn bread and a fresh salad to start the night off right. We played some baby shower related games and Taboo. Which if y'all didn't know, Taboo is Ev's middle name. Competition to the max. The video I posted in the last update was a clip of Ev and I receiving Ev's baby foot print. Deb gave the clay imprint to her brother Bob when Ev was only 2 and has since held on to it. Twenty-eight years later we have it hanging in Lee Ila's (potential) nursery.

The next day we spent enjoying more great southern cooking and a mini road trip of all the beautiful sights to see & hear in the south. Theres miles upon miles of Pecan farms, moss drenched lives oaks, white as white can be sandy beaches, chirping down by the creek, and the use of "ma'am" or "sir." I pulled my camera out for a few shots that day, they are posted to the last update, but here are two more.

We drove back to Birmingham, watched the National Championship game (ROLL TIDE) and went to sleep for our full day of travels to come.

Back to Arizona.

Finally. Not that I'm complaining about this amazing life I have, able to enjoy my family for two weeks then his for another, but I was ready to unpack our suitcases & moving boxes once and for all. We spent three days cleaning and organizing in Arizona before flying to California for my mothers birthday.

Mom turned **! I'm sure most of y'all know but she doesn't want me reminding anyone of how young she is. We celebrated in the little-ist of ways.

On Saturday I was fortunate enough to have been invited to a gifting suite by my good friend Bryce. We collected bags and bags of cool stuff. Including The Baby Bullet & Nap Nanny. We even received a pair of scrubs Ev can wear during labor that say "I'm the daddy!" on the back. Thanks Bryce!

A short pleasant trip with a long drive home. YES, I have my car back! My first baby, my silver Prius. I loved loved loved driving back to Arizona up until about.... Indio, California. Three hours in and I was ready to give up. "You know pregnant woman shouldn't drive after 5 months." I held in my thoughts but was trying to come up with a good enough argument for Ev to squeeze behind the wheel and take over for the next 4.5 hours. BUT I DID IT! With one 45 minute break so I could eat and relax a bit, but that was it! I'm proud, just not proud enough to call it easy and willing to do again. Next time we will be taking Ev's car there and back. He can drive the whole way ;)

After unpacking the car and making a mess of our fresh clean home, I went upstairs to take a reality break. A 20 minute bath, candles and all, helped ease my mind with a simple birthing plan.

Our birthing plan has always been to have the baby at home, unmedicated with support from a midwife. Before my "realization" we planned on using the midwife we found in Los Angeles that was willing to drive to Camarillo for the birth at my parents home. For many reasons, this seemed complicated. To start we would have to drive out to California every two weeks for our bi-weekly appointments. Then we would have to live in California from 36 weeks on for safety of the labor and our weekly appointments. And to make it all just a little more difficult, Ev has to report back to work by April 16th (theres wiggle room so he can stay for the labor, but has to leave next day.) Baby and I would need to meet him out there once she and I are approved for take off. It's just a complicated mess and didn't make much sense, especially since Ev needs to work in Arizona 6 days a week.

Our NEW & IMPROVED birthing plan is to stay in Arizona for the labor. We found a midwife already and she is just wonderful. Now, all of our problems disappear. My mother & father will help once Ila is born till we have to move. Ev's mother will help us move into our new home (still have no idea) once we are approved to fly. Now, we nest.

This whole nesting thing is fun :D But work... plenty of work. Initially planning and sadly attempting on painting the babies room & patio on my own, I gave in and hired someone. Nursery is painted and patio is almost done. Once the carpet is (being replaced) we will start decorating. The patio needs a few more pieces but is looking great. The rest of the house in still in cahoots but getting there, once piece at a time.

If y'all have any suggestions on decorating ideas or want to suggest your favorite kitchen appliance, please let me know! I'm in need of your thoughts, I'm running dry.

Aww.

26 Weeks

Evan, Thor & I are visiting Alabama, and it is absolutely wonderful. I wanted to update YA'LL with some photos of our vacation so far but will write more when we get to Arizona.

Sorry for the quick post but I'm having too much fun!

25 Weeks

One more week till my third trimester & we finally found our midwives! The midwives are based out of Los Angeles but are willing to drive to Camarillo for the birth. I felt a connection with the center & am seriously looking forward to Evan meeting them in three weeks.

Another task on our "to do" list was to find a Bradley Method class, and we did it! For those curious of what the Bradley Method is, here's a definition, "...emphasizes that birth is a natural process: mothers are encouraged to trust their body and focus on diet and exercise throughout pregnancy; and it teaches couples to manage labor through deep breathing and the support of their partner." Our class is once a week for 12 weeks & is based out of Phoenix, AZ.

SO YAA. I'm a bit stressed. But not an ounce of it is because of the birth. It's more of an anxiety issue over traveling so much in the next three months.

Other than that (little tiny bit of stress) everything else is fantastic thanks to my wonderful boyfriend. Evan has been working his butt off finishing the season, packing & cleaning the apartment. What a guy. I miss that kid.

Tomorrow is my last day in California (till January 14th) then Thor, Lee Ila & I are off to see Daddy and the rest of the Mathis & Baumhower family! Ah, what a relief. As wonderful as it's been to be with my friends and family, I've had a hard time being away from Evan for this long.

When I wake from bad dreams or recent minor pains from Ila moving, I now have no one to turn to in case of "necessary" reassurance. Call me needy but after living with someone for so long, you're just use to it and truly appreciate it. I've been waking up three to five times a night now, making my days much harder to get though. My theory to refrain from napping during the day to sleep through the night doesn't seem to be working. I'll try it eventually, till then I'll be the typical exhausted pregnant girl (with a smile.)

Being creative has helped keep my mind off being tired. Besides fooling around with friends and eating tons of great food, I've been playing with my Christmas present from Evan! He bought me a lens for our Nikon, a fancy lens (that I still need some heavy advice on.) Here are some images that I've taken & played with on Photoshop :)
